Several fire engines responded to an early morning fire on the south side of town.

Crews were called out just before 6:30 a.m. to the intersection of Pyrenees and Dalmation Streets, near Rodd Field Rd. and Yorktown Blvd. When crews arrived, flames could be seen coming from a fiberglass warehouse.

It took crews about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, which spread to a nearby residence. The person in that house was able to get out, along with his dogs.

James DeVisser with the Corpus Christi Fire Department said because of the conditions, multiple firefighters were checked for heat exhaustion.

“Starting to get into a little cooler time of the year but it’s still super humid and firefighting is a really strenuous job,” DeVisser said. “Just a tremendous amount of work to extinguish this fire, thousands of gallons of water were used to do it.”

DeVisser said all firefighters that were treated are okay and are able to go home.

An investigator is on scene to try and determine the cause of the fire.
