The Nueces County District Attorney’s office created a task force in March.
Today, the Task Force announced they have made ten drug busts along Highway 77.
Special Investigator Mike Tamez said, “The demand for narcotics especially coming out of South Texas. South Texas fuels the whole east coast of the United States. The drugs close by or the drugs we catch a lot of this are intended for North Carolina, New Jersey for Atlanta all these Eastern States.”
Tamez added that many of the cars have special “compartments” the smugglers hide illegal drugs in and that Harry, the K-9 is able to sniff even residues of drugs.
The officers come from Robstown Police Department, Nueces County Constable Precinct 5, the Corpus Christi Police Department, and several Federal agencies.
