Just in time for the beginning of a new school year, local elementary students are receiving some much needed supplies.

The materials were distributed Thursday morning at Allen Elementary School by CC Youth Educational Support.

CC YES, a partner of SA YES is a non-profit organization that provides support to high-needs schools through educational outreach, school supply donations and classroom grants.

Through a sponsorship from Thomas J. Henry, CC YES will provide 5,000 kindergarten through fifth grade students with the supplies they need to start the school year off right.

“We’ve got 10 schools here in Corpus Christi — title-one schools,” said Henry. “We’ll be reaching 5,000 children here in Corpus Christi. Last year, we reached 4,000.”

In 2017, CC YES distributed 4,000 school supply kits to students across Corpus Christi. Since 1998, its partner SA YES has assisted more than 390,000 students and is fully funded through corporate and private donors.
