If you are looking for a career. A change of scenery. Or just want a good paying job.

Del Mar’s truck driver program is for you and there are tons of jobs available.

“In the state of Texas, trucking is the number one occupation in demand,” said John Rojas the programs Director of Transportation.

It’s not difficult to get in the program.

“You’ve got to be at least 18 years old have a valid Texas drivers license and be able to pass the DOT physical and drug test,” said Rojas.

The program at Del Mar costs 4 thousand dollars for a 4 week program.

It may sound like a lot, but its actually cheap when you consider about a month or so after you start, you can step into a job making 45-50 thousand bucks a year.

Ernest Reyna took advantage of a program the city offers.

The city pay his tuition and he will move into a good paying job once he graduates.

“It’s not hard. You have to put your mind to it and study it,” said Reyna.

John Longoria wanted to be a truck driver since he was a kid.

“My grand father, my uncle, my dad; they all have been truck drivers for a while. So I got interested in it since I was about 7 years old,” said Longoria.

Last year the program graduated 568 students and about 90% of then got jobs.

Our program has been very successful. Our students go to work. That’s what it is about. We’ve helped a lot of folks out and its nice to see them succeed,” said Rojas.
