Fill your sandbags for free starting today.  The City is being proactive by providing people the opportunity to fill up sandbags ahead of any major weather event.  The City unveiled its sandbagging machine over at the solid waste headquarters on Friday offering a demonstration of how residents will use it.

The machine will fill the bags much quicker than shoveling the sand into the bags by hand.  For the next few weekends, the machine will be at various locations around the city so residents can fill sandbags before the next storm.

“This is just the City being proactive, making sure the citizens have what they need because it’s not only for a hurricane it could be for flooding or flash flood that we might have throughout the year and you already have sandbags,” said Billy Delgado, City Emergency Management Coordinator.

This weekend the sandbag machine will be at Bill Witt park from 8 am – 1 pm.  Each household can get six sandbags for free. The bags will be provided at the machine location.  Each bag can weigh up to 50 lbs.  Staff will not be available to help load the bags so bringing help is recommended

The sandbagging machine will be at the J.C. Elliot Collection Center during the week starting the August 15th.  For more information, visit the City’s website.
