Like many people in Rockport, Tx, the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey took a toll on Tasha Martin. Not only did she lose her home, she also lost her job.

“We were all bartenders at Fulton Beach Bar and Grill, which was completely destroyed,” says Tasha Martin who now owns Rock Bottom Park & Pub.

The saying, once you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up, resembles Martin. Martin and a former coworker teamed up and opened Rock Bottom Park & Pub in downtown Rockport.

“I guess after Harvey it couldn’t of gotten any worse, so it was just fitting,” says Martin.

She says business is good, tourism is picking up once again.

“They come left and right from Houston, San Antonio, Austin,” says Martin.

With the one year anniversary looming around the corner.

“It gets a little antsy trying to relive it all again,” says Martin.

On August 25th, instead of looking back on what they have lost, Rockport is celebrating their comeback.

The downtown Arts District is sponsoring a block party, with music and food. Rock Bottom is joining in on the festivities.

“We’re bringing in SA Lights from San Antonio, we have Electric Circus from Austin, Texas,” says Martin.

Raising a beer to getting through the storm, as one community, Rockport Strong.

“We’re still here, we’re still kicking butt, we’re still making moves, and no one’s stopping until it’s getting done,” says Martin.

The block party will be Saturday, August, 25th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Rock Bottom Park & Pub has a week full of activities beginning August 22nd.
