The sales tax holiday in Texas kicks off in one week. Starting next Friday, August 10th through Sunday, August 12th, certain items will be exempt from sales tax. According to the website, comptroller.texas.gov, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced below $100 from sales tax. It will save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend during the weekend. The law applies to retail and online stores or catalog seller doing business in Texas. In most cases, you do not need to give the seller an exemption certificate to buy qualifying items tax-free. The sales tax exemption applies only to qualifying items you buy during the sales tax holiday. Items you buy before or after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for an exemption, and there is no tax refund available.
