The Rockport Relief Camp has been a Godsend to thousands of people who were devistated by Hurricane Harvey.
“We’ve literally given away best estimate close to 1/2 million dollars in supplies since August 29th,” said Samantha McCrary.
Now, the Relief Camp’s goal is to give every grade school child in the area a free pair of brand new shoes.
“We want to make sure that every single kid in Aransas County Schools goes back to school with a brand new pair of shoes,” said McCrary.
“And that’s about 3500 pair of shoes we have 140 pairs already,” added McCrary.
The event is August 11th at the First Baptist Church in Rockport.
“It’s going to be a fun day your going to be able to get just about everything your kid needs for back to school,” said McCrary.
The Relief Camp is in desperate need for new shoes, and there is one other thing.
If you have been to rockport relief camps facility.. you may have noticed the elephant in the room….. trash
“There’s a lot of trash,” said McCrary.
“I know it’s a mess. I have already spent almost $5000 hauling off debris. Hauling off the boxes and the pallets and the crates and the stuff that all this came in. I pay the same 6 cents a pound at the transfer station that everyone else does,” said McCrary.
So if you have a big truck or want to donate a big dumpster, the Rockport Relief Camp will gladly take it. And don’t forget about the shoes.
