Investigators with the San Patricio Sheriff's Office are investigating a train-pedestrian crash that left a 16-year-old teenage boy dead early Thursday morning.
The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. Thursday on the railroad tracks south of Sinton along US Highway 77B.
Investigators say a 16-year-old Sinton teen was apparently sleeping in the middle of the train tracks. The engineer of the approaching train blew his horn and the young man stood up and walked towards the southbound train.
Investigators added the teenage boy was struck before the train engineer could stop.
Oscar Rivera, the San Patricio County Sheriff said the train was 140-cars long.
His family has been notified. Investigators are looking into why the teenage boy was asleep on the train tracks.
