CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi says wearing a face mask will now be a requirement for people on campus for the summer and fall semester.
“I feel its more safe, because due to the Covid-19 its kind of dangerous,” said student Huyen Bui.
As new Coronavirus cases spike across Texas, TAMU-CC is playing it safe as students begin their return to campus. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors now have to wear a face mask or a covering over their mouths and noses while they’re on campus. But the university says they will only be required when “social distancing measures are not possible”.
Students who are already back on campus say it’s not an unrealistic expectation.
“I know it's a little bit uncomfortable but it's safe for our health so it's worth it,” said Bui.
Atmospheric Science student Michael Riser says he wore a mask for weeks at a time while he was in the military to try and keep his lungs clean from dust storms in the Middle East. Therefore, getting used to doing it back here at home won’t be a problem for him.
“Social interaction is very important when you’re a student, especially when you’re a young student, doing it from a computer screen is not the same thing so if that’s the price you have to pay to do that then just do it,” said Riser.
Instructions for where and when students can pick-up a face covering if they need one, will be available when the ‘Return to Campus Guide for Students’ is ready.
The university says details are still being finalized on face-covering requirements, more details will be provided later this week.
