CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With the approval of the landmark COVID-19 vaccine by the FDA and the recommendation of the CDC, shipments of the Pfizer and Biontech vaccine can begin as early as tomorrow.

The Christus Spohn Health System is ready to begin distributing them to their staff as quickly as possible.

“Things are moving very rapidly,” said Dr. Osbert Blow, president and chief medial officer of the Christus Spohn Health System. “It could be any day now when we receive our installment of vaccines. What we have done again, working with our partners in our community and also in Irving with our parent organization in Christus, we have laid out a very well-orchestrated protocol and plan so we are ready.

“The only thing we are lacking are the vaccines to distribute, but we've got the place, we've got the people.”

Initial doses will be given to front line medical workers and people living in assisted living facilities.

It could be months before the general public will begin receiving doses of the vaccines.
