CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The owner of a local laundromat is offering free washes this weekend as part of his back to school event.

“We don't have a business without our customers, and we want to give back,” said Dan Vandam.

Vandam owns 8 different laundromats in South Texas. In an effort to give back to the community, he gave away free washing cycles to his customers at the laundromat location in Ingleside last week.

Now he's bringing the special offer to Corpus Christi.

This Saturday families can go to Quik Trip Laundry and wash as many loads as they need, all free of charge.

Vandam said he hopes to lighten the load for families who are focused on spending their money buying back to school supplies and clothes for their kids.

Last week at his first free event, he got to see firsthand how much help doing laundry for free, could be to a family.

“A mother came in and she had five children, three that she was fostering and in the middle of adopting and she was struggling financially,” said Vandam. “She brought in 25 loads of laundry and we got her whole house taken care of and got her kids clothes clean and she's ready for school.”

On top of free washing, Vandam bought thousands of dollars’ worth in school supplies, and is giving them away to families who haven’t been able to afford going back-to-school shopping.

“We have packaged bags for each grade level of what CCISD has put on their supply list,” said Vandam.

Free washing will be available at the Quik Trip Laundry located at 4245 Kostoryz Rd.from 9 AM to 5 PM on August 24th.

Vandam said if the event is successful, he'll extend the offer to his eight other laundromat locations next year.
