CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Like a good neighbor, Rudy Hernandez enjoys keeping a close eye out for his neighbor’s needs. Especially his elderly neighbors.
“I saw a post on Facebook in the neighborhood where the neighborhood had a bunch of moths and they left cocoons all over the house and they were trying to clean it,” said Rudy Hernandez, owner of 361 Contracting.
That's why this summer Hernandez has dedicated his time to power washing homes for those who can't do it themselves or can't afford it.
“I felt it was the right thing to do,” said Hernandez. “To give back to some of the elderly people here in Lindale and try to offer them free pressure washing so we've done about 13 or 14 houses this week.”
Each house cost $200 to wash and takes about 2 hours to complete. Neighbors who are now retired or on fixed incomes, say it's a relief. And an uncommon one.
“I’m an old widow lady and I live on a very limited income, so I really appreciate that he's stepping up,” said Betty Rhodes. “More people need to step up to the plate and help people who are unable to do it for themselves.”
Hernandez has owned his own contracting business for 2 years. And credits his success to his neighbor’s support, so power washing for him, is just his way of actively showing his gratitude.
“It makes me feel good and it makes the guys feel good because they know what's going on,” said Hernandez.
He says he's willing to help any person who could use his help, and they don't necessarily have to be his neighbor
“He mowed his neighbor’s yard the other day, because he's an old man can't do it himself, he's been ill,” said Rhodes.
