CCISD has changed the proposed construction site for the new Carroll High School.

District officials announced today that they now plan to build the high school on Saratoga near Kostoryz.  The new location is about a mile and a half from the current Carroll High School campus on Weber Road.  The district originally chose a location close to Saratoga and Weber Road but after a public debate over that location, the district decided to go with the Kostoryz property.

CCISD Superintendent, Roland Hernandez, says this decision came after months of meetings with Navy officials.  The Navy raised concerns about the location being within crash zones.  The superintendent points out that the district has continuously met with the Navy since concerns were raised before the bond election last fall.  And he says when other concerns were raised after the election, the district again discussed them with community leaders leading up to today’s announcement.

‘In the end, because it does create a little hesitation and maybe the unknown, there was no issue with slowing down,” said Dr. Roland Hernandez, “Let’s get the right information and make sure people understand what steps we took and how we ended up where we did.”

As meetings continue with the design and construction teams, Hernandez says the district hopes to stick to the timeline to open the new high school by 2022. As of now, there are no firm dates for a new groundbreaking at the newest chosen site.
