NASCC security detains truck driver, closes south gate

UPDATE: NASCC reports that the Main gate has now reopened. The base says the suspect vehicle was searched and by CCPD bomb squad and deemed not to be a threat.

The South/Main Gate has opened to all traffic.The truck that had been detained has been searched and cleared by CCPD bomb squad, rendered safe and deemed not a threat.

Police activity has led to the closure of the South Gate at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

According to NASCC public affairs, at approximately 2:45 p.m., NASCC Security personnel stopped a truck at the Commercial Vehicle Inspection gate that had a BOLO (be on the lookout) attached to it. The Military Working Dog also alerted on the truck.

The driver has been detained. A perimeter has been set up, which includes securing the South/Main Gate. The gate has been closed to all traffic.

Criminal Investigation Division and CCPD are on scene.

All traffic has been diverted through the North/Ocean Drive Gate.
