Local Cracker Barrel GM gives an ill and elderly woman a ‘sweet sweet’ surprise

Linda Cannon has been at the Christus Spohn hospital since Saturday.

“I got a bad heart,” said Cannon.

While resting she saw a commercial that sent her taste buds into a frenzy.

“It was a craving somebody said something about cracker barrel on TV,” said Cannon. “Bought me some chocolate cake before and I had to have it.”

Cannons condition doesn’t allow her to leave the hospital though, so her granddaughter sprung into action.

“She heard because I told her my mother was craving Cracker Barrel coca cola cake,” said Christie Lott. “She said do you want to bet me $20 bucks I get her cake there delivered today and I said I’m not going to bet you.”

And the idea for a sweet surprise was in the making.

Some say you can’t have your cake and eat it too but the general manager at the local Cracker Barrel says otherwise.

Lindol White received the call from cannon’s granddaughter.

“Maci was really trying she was calling every third party provider she could think of,” said White.

He understood the need to help.

“A big part of it too is I could relate,” said White. “My grandmother is up in Ohio and you’re far away and I could feel the agony of being that far away especially when a loved one is sick.”

So on Monday, White set out for the Christus Spohn, and in came the cake.

“And this really nice fellow came and brought me some cake I’ve been eating it for 3 days,” said Cannon.

And out came a smile.

“I think we broke all the rules but I love to break the rules,” said Cannon.

Cannon says this is a cake she’ll savor to the last bite.

“I appreciate him so much going out of his way, because he didn’t have to do that,” said Cannon. “Oh, he’s got to be a fairy god mother.”
