Jewel Roy says that on January 31st, she hired a contractor to remodel her bathroom.

“The bathroom floor was rotted out, the tub, the shower, and commode,” said Roy.

But after a couple weeks, she says the work stopped, just shy of being completed.

“The bath tub is not hooked up,” said Roy. Another thing I didn’t like is that he charged me $300 to take out the window, he covered it and now it’s all boarded up.”

Roy says she paid just shy of $2000.

We spoke to the contractor Tino Velasquez, who said it’s true, but there’s a reason he didn’t finish the job.

“I’m doing a lot of stuff even extra stuff,” said Velasquez in a phone interview.

“I left her the contract to sign for me for all the stuff I’ve done but the lady doesn’t want to pay me,” said Velasquez.

He said the only bit left to do was connect the tub and cover the hole where the bathroom window used to be but that part of the job wasn’t paid for.

“I don’t put nothing cause that’s extra money on the side,” said Velasquez.

The contracts that Roy did not sign were for the remaining part of the work.

“I don’t finish, you don’t sign the contracts, I want you to pay me too,” said Velasquez.
