It’s going to be a Valentine’s Day to remember at the Garden Estates of Corpus Christi.
“We plan to do a really big bash,” said Vickie Garcia, Garden Estates program director.
It’ll be the first time the retirement community hosts a night of “speed-dating”.
“Five minutes ding, five minutes ding, five minutes ding,” said Garcia.
And it’s giving a whole new meaning to fast flirting
“We have the women in a station where they’re sitting down and then the men will rotate until they go through all the women,” said Garcia.
Garcia adds that older men and women are often alone because they are widows and widowers.
So on the most bewitching day of the year, she wants to bring out their dancing shoes, and dancing walkers.
There are spots open for 20 men and 20 women to do their mingling and the only qualification is you have to be over the age of 60.
But one-speed dater says she sets her bar a little higher than an age limit
“He has to be handsome I don’t like ugly men,” said Ophelia, a resident at Garden Estates.
When I asked her what she planned on talking about in the five minutes she gets for each gentleman, she said coyly, “Oh my God, that’s private,”
So I decided to leave the matchmaking to the professionals.
