Watch: Sam Ehlinger delivers a warning to the rest of college football

In a moment that even upstaged a pre-game mascot skirmish, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger served notice to the rest of college football.

The Longhorns’ 28-21 upset victory over Georgia Tuesday night at the Sugar Bowl really wasn’t as close as the score indicated. And it gave Ehlinger a chance to gloat — just a little — after earning the game’s MVP trophy in a post-game interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe.

The triumph was likely the biggest for the Longhorns since earning the national championship in the 2006 Rose Bowl.

And it pushed them into the driver’s seat to challenge for their first Big 12 title since 2009 next season. Athlon.com’s early 2019 preseason rankings have the Longhorns ranked No. 6 nationally. They are behind No. 4 Oklahoma but the gap between the programs looks to be shrinking.

It appears that Ehlinger might be right.
