If you are a parent wondering what to do with your child’s Halloween candy, a local restaurant is willing to take all of it.  Bravo Café is located down the street from the Naval Air Station and employees are collecting candy for service members.

The event is called Treats for Troops. It is organized by Soldier’s Angels. The organization collects thousands of candy every year and sends it to VA Hospitals nationwide and to Active Soldiers overseas.

“When you get something from back home, it can be a Snickers bar, but you haven’t had it in so long, it is huge,” says Café owner and Navy Veteran Nancy Mitchell.

Café owner Nancy Mitchell knows what a simple act of kindness means to troops. She served in the Navy for more than a decade, her husband is still an active member.

This is why she is determined to collect hundreds of candy for our troops.

“The bags are still kind of big, they’re almost like a gallon so when they come back, they have a lot of candy,” says Mitchell.

She also says it’s a good way for parents to get rid of some of the Halloween candy.

Candy bags or monetary donations can be dropped off at the Café located on 374 NAS Dr.

It’s opened Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
