J.J. Watt can’t believe his little brother’s phantom roughing the passer fine

Posted

NFL league officials are getting regularly blasted after some of the roughing-the-passer penalties that are turning up around the league.

It’s gotten so bad that J.J. Watt stood up for a player on another team who was penalized and fined last week.

Of course, it was his little brother, Pittsburgh outside linebacker T.J. Watt. So big brother’s consternation is a little better explained.

The NFL fined T.J. Watt $20,054 for “forcibly hitting in the knee area or below” Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan. Reports indicate the Steelers have been instructed by the league office to deduct the money from Watt’s paycheck if he does not appeal.

J.J. Watt couldn’t believe the penalty or the resulting fine on the play.

The NFL is under huge pressure to make its game safer.

But some of the calls are bordering on the ridiculous for the Watt brothers and others.
