Cannabinoid oil, also known as CBD oil is one of the many ingredients found in marijuana, it’s not psychoactive and often used for medicinal purposes. It is not legal in all states, but as of this year, it’s showing up in nutrition stores across the state. Most recently, the Coastal Bend.

The Shack, Recreation Relaxation Retreat in Port Aransas is one of the few locations selling the product.

While it’s a grey area, owner Suzanne Mccann, says shops can legally sell the oil in Texas because it does not contain THC, the ingredient that gets you high.

“If you’re being drug tested, you’re fine using this,” says Suzanne Mccann. “This is not about getting stoned,”

Prescriptions for CBD oil with low levels of THC are only legal for patients with severe epilepsy.

Mccann sells products from Austin, Tx, based dispensary Life’s Balance.

“There’s different strengths, from the 250mg to the 1500 mg,” says Mccann.

The products claim to alleviate inflammation, stress, and pain.

“Everything from epilepsy to arthritis,” says Mccann.

Mccann is a believer. She started using the products a few months ago after being diagnosed with cancer.

She says CBD oil is a healthy alternative to opioids.

“You don’t have to have something that’s expensive and addictive and pharmaceutical, and that is derogatory to your health,” says Mccann.
