Border Patrol Agents in Zapata seized nearly 900 pounds of marijuana from smugglers attempting to bring the drugs into the United States on Sunday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents yesterday saw a boat on Falcon Lake, near Zapata, traveling toward the U.S. from Mexico.

Agents say they later saw several people taking several large bundles from the boat and move them to a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck parked on the U.S. side of the lake.

As agents approached the truck, the driver fled and was unable to be located, CBP said.

Inside the truck, agents found 37 bundles of marijuana, valued at an estimated $682,720.

Border Patrol says the case has been referred to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
