Mosquito season is back, protect yourself

Posted

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer time and outdoor activities events.  The Texas Department of State Health wants to remind everyone to protect themselves against mosquito bites and the diseases they carry.

That includes the Zika virus.

The organization recommends putting on EPA-approved insect repellent before going outdoors.  They also advise to apply it after applying sunscreen for maximum protection.

These are some other simple steps to protect yourself from mosquitoes that could be carrying the Zika virus:

Wear EPA-approved insect repellent.

Wear light-weight, long-sleeve shirts and pants

Use screens on your windows and doors

Remove standing water in and around your home

Use mosquito nets to protect babies younger than two months

Cover trash cans or container where water can collet
