CCISD will no longer cover required physicals

Parents can expect to see an added fee for their student-athlete going to a CCISD next school year. All students who are required to have a physical exam, will have to pay out of their own pocket.

The District requires physicals for all athletes including cheerleaders, drill team, band and ROTC members.

The athletic director for CCISD says the District is one of the last to still cover physical exams.

Marshal said "We’ve had the luxury in the past, but you know we’ve had some budget cuts and things like that so there were some things we may not be offering anymore."

According to the athletic director last year, all CCISD departments had to cut 10 percent from their budget losing about $157,000 from the athletic department including the money for physical exams.

To keep the costs low, CCISD is collaborating with Promptu Care who will be offering physicals for $20 at all Corpus Christi locations.

The District is also working on getting a list of free physicals to be offered over the summer.
