Re-opening ceremony held for Greenwood Dr. project

The city of Corpus Christi held a grand opening ceremony this morning for the new-and-improved Greenwood Drive project.

The 2012 bond project called for a major do-over of Greenwood from Gollihar to Horne Road.

Work on the project included a new four lane road with a continuous center turn lane, new sidewalks with ADA compliant ramps, and improved gutters and curbs.

City officials say this is great news for the charter school, fire station and people who live along Greenwood drive.

“Like a lot of our street network, it was very old and deteriorated and really needed to be reconstructed,” said public works executive Valerie Gray. “We’re really happy today that we have completed one more 2012 project.”

Meanwhile, construction is underway on a hike and bike path at the Hector P. Garcia Park on Greenwood Drive.

The city says the work should be completed in the next few weeks.
