Train derailment blocks Highway 77 entrance to Woodsboro

Posted

A train carrying goods from Mexico to Houston derailed overnight in Woodsboro, knocking out power to the town and causing major problems with traffic.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. off of Highway 77 by the Fast Break Convenience Store, according to the Woodsboro chief of police.

The train that derailed was traveling north on the tracks. Another train was going south on the tracks. The chief said the train didn’t slow down enough when it went to pass the other train and the tracks gave way at the intersection. 12 of the 15 cars derailed.

No injuries were reported.

With the train blocking the entrance to the town, officials are asking everyone to use an alternate route.

We are told that the mess will not be cleaned up until late tonight, so if you plan on traveling that way, use an alternate route.
