Over 500 pounds of marijuana seized near Laredo by Border Patrol

Posted

Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of marijuana was seized near Laredo by Border Patrol agents on Friday, April 20.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said two separate incidents led to the seizures, both on the same day.

First, drug dogs alerted agents to a Dodge Ram pickup at a checkpoint north of Laredo. The driver, a U.S. citizen, was arrested and his truck turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration after agents reportedly found around 294 pounds of marijuana hidden onboard.

Later that day, agents retrieved another 218 pounds of the herb from an abandoned Kia mini-van elsewhere in the city. No arrests were made in that case.

Both seizures had an estimated street value over $300,000, according to officials.
