National Crime Victims Rights Week started today.  The event is held to focus on the rights of crime victims and their families.

The Corpus Christi Homicide Survivor Group placed wreaths and plaques at the Nueces County Courthouse to initiate the event.

Sylvia Gonzalez, whose daughter was murdered in 2009, says those services have been a great help for her.

"Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her, I don’t cry, I don’t cry as much because the support that I have," said Gonzalez, "With this, a little closure but…it will never go away, the pain will never go away."

This event is held every year to get the word out on what services are available to the families of crime victims.  This is the 21st year this event is held locally.
