The teenager charged with a Thanksgiving Day murder heads to court today for a plea hearing.
18-year-old Elishah Trevino is accused of killing 44-year-old Homer Muguerza in his home on Mesa Street in November of 2016.
The arrest affidavit obtained by KRIS 6 states that Muguerza was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Officers say they reviewed surveillance video from the home of Muguerza which showed a young man entering the home through the back door.
Just moments later, the victim’s vehicle was seen leaving out of the garage.
The vehicle was then seen on surveillance video at a local bank 12 minutes later where the suspect tried three times to use the victim’s credit card, but was unsuccessful.
Investigators also collected surveillance footage of who they believed was the suspect at a Stripes store earlier that day. A witness identified that person as Elishah Trevino. Trevino was then questioned by investigators on November 30 and admitted going into Muguerza’s home and stealing a few items including a television monitor, tools, speakers and a weed eater.
Trevino told investigators he heard a man snoring in a room but never made contact with that man. He was then arrested in connection with that murder.
Trevino is charged with capital murder, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and credit card abuse.
Elishah Trevino pleaded not guilty to capital murder charges on March 2nd, 2017.
If convicted, Trevino could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
Trevino remains in the Nueces County Jail on a $350,000 bond.
5 or 6 people are expected to give victim impact statements.
