Posted

The City of Port Aransas declared April 5th, Spurs Day.  Members from the San Antonio sports organization volunteered to work on rebuild projects and recovery efforts following months after Hurricane Harvey devastated the community.

About 150 members came to assist in a number of projects, including painting, dune clean-up and trash pick-up.

One of those volunteers was Casey Heverling, the general manager at the AT&T Center, was getting his hands dirty, helping remove trees from the dunes.

"You hear about it, you see it on the news as it’s happening, and for those of us who haven’t been down here since, it’s shocking," Heverling said. "But it’s also a reminder to why we’re here."

The volunteers worked in 14 different locations in Port Aransas, including the ARK, Paradise Pond, and Mustang Island State Park.

Port Aransas high school and middle school students held a pep rally to than the volunteers.
