SCHOOL CLOSURES: School districts closed Tuesday due to extreme winter weather

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx — The Coastal Bend is bracing for extreme weather conditions as an Arctic Blast moves into the area starting Sunday.

Some school districts are preparing to close their campuses to ensure the safety of their students and staff.

Here are the Coastal Bend-area school districts that are closed:

CORPUS CHRISTI ISD

  • CCISD officials announced on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Corpus Christi ISD schools and offices will be closed. Unless otherwise notified by their supervisor, CCISD employees do not need to report to work. All before- and after-school activities have been postponed or canceled; coaches and sponsors will update their groups directly. Currently, the district expects to return to normal operations Wednesday, Jan. 22.

WEST OSO ISD

  • Kimberly Moore, Superintendent of West Oso ISD, announced that all campuses and offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. "All athletic activities will be canceled as well. The public meeting and regular board meeting also scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, 2025, will be canceled and rescheduled for a later date," Moore stated in a letter to parents. School officials will continue to monitor conditions, and if district operations are affected by the weather beyond Tuesday, January 21, 2025, they will provide updated information.

BISHOP ISD

  • Bishop ISD will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22, with classes resuming on Thursday, Jan. 23.

ROBSTOWN ISD

  • School officials say all Robstown ISD schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. All extracurricular activities, including UIL sporting events, practices, and games, are canceled until school resumes. The City of Robstown and Nueces County have opened a warming center at the Nueces County Robstown Senior Community Center at 415 Mainer Rd. This center will provide a safe haven for people needing warmth due to the extreme weather. "Meals and snacks will be available. Pets will be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, subject to space and availability," stated Robstown officials in a social media post.

CALALLEN ISD

  • Based on current weather predictions for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21st, we have made the decision to cancel all classes in Calallen ISD. All extracurricular activities, including UIL sporting events, practices, and games, are canceled until school resumes. A decision regarding Wednesday, January 22nd, will be made no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

LONDON ISD

  • Due to the winter weather expected in the area, all London ISD campuses and administration will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 for the safety of our students and staff. We will continue to monitor the weather and make any determination on further closures late Tuesday. We encourage our Pirate families to stay safe and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from freezing temperatures.

FLOUR BLUFF ISD

  • Due to inclement weather, Flour Bluff ISD will not have classes on Tuesday, Jan. 21. If classes must be canceled on Wednesday as well, they will send an update tomorrow.

ALICE ISD

  • All students and staff will report to school on Monday, January 20, 2025. As of now, Alice ISD will close schools only on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. "We will keep you posted about Wednesday classes as we monitor the weather on Monday," stated Alice ISD officials in a social media post.

KINGSVILLE ISD

  • Due to inclement weather, Kingsville ISD will not have classes on Tuesday, Jan. 21, or Wednesday, Jan. 22.

INGLESIDE ISD

  • Out of an abundance of caution and in anticipation of the forecasted winter weather, Ingleside ISD will be canceling classes for all students and staff on Tuesday, January 21st.

    At this time, we anticipate classes to resume on Wednesday, January 22nd. Should there be any changes, we will promptly share updates with our community through our official district communication platforms (website, social media, and email/text notifications).

TULOSO-MIDWAY ISD

  • School officials say all TM-ISD classes will be canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and students will start classes two hours late on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

DRISCOLL ISD

  • School officials say all Driscoll ISD classes will be canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and students will start classes late at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

REFUGIO ISD

  • School officials say Refugio ISD will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to weather forecasts predicting dangerous road conditions for staff and students. Classes will be delayed until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22. Buses will run at 9 a.m. Any additional changes to normal operations will be communicated as soon as possible.

TAFT ISD

  • Taft ISD campuses will be closed for all students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Taft officials will monitor the weather to determine if schedule changes will be required on Wednesday.

THREE RIVERS ISD

  • With a 60-80% chance of rain this evening and tonight with the strong possibility of freezing, Three Rivers ISD will close on Tuesday with the safety of its students and employees in mind. We will schedule a late start on Wednesday at 10:00 am. Stand by for bus route times on Wednesday. All practices and games on Tuesday are canceled.

AGUA DULCE ISD

  • Agua Dulce ISD campuses will be closed for all students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Agua Dulce officials will monitor the weather to determine if schedule changes will be required on Wednesday.

BANQUETE ISD

  • Out of an abundance of caution to ensure our students, staff, and families stay safe during the upcoming inclement weather, all Banquete ISD schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. School officials will provide an update on Tuesday regarding any potential closure for Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

BISHOP ISD

  • Due to expected inclement weather on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, Bishop CISD is canceling school all day on January 21 and 22. Although Wednesday afternoon is expected to be clear, school is canceled all day due to the icy conditions expected that morning.

ODEM-EDROY ISD

  • Odem-Edroy ISD campuses will be closed for all students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Odem-Edroy officials will monitor the weather to determine if schedule changes will be required on Wednesday.

SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  • All four School of Science and Technology campuses will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21, due to the anticipated freezing temperatures. Parents can also refer to the SST Facebook pages and Parent Square messages to learn the most up-to-date developments.

RICHARD MILBURN ACADEMY

  • On Tuesday, January 21st, RMA Corpus Christi will be closed. At this time, classes will resume on Wednesday, January 22.

DIOCESE OF C.C.

  • The Catholic schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi have canceled classes on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

JUVENILE JUSTICE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM (JJAEP)

  • JJAEP will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority, and this decision was made after careful consideration of weather forecasts and travel conditions. JJAEP is expected to resume normal operations on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-CORPUS CHRISTI

  • TAMU-CC CODE BLUE: Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is shifting to remote classes and business operations* due to inclement weather conditions. Normal operations are expected to resume at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, across all university classrooms, offices, and services. Classes that start before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be delivered in a remote capacity.

ARANSAS PASS ISD

  • Aransas Pass ISD and Lighthouse Learning Center & Daycare will be closed all day on Tuesday, Jan. 21. School will be back in session on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

GREGORY-PORTLAND ISD

  • All Gregory-Portland ISD schools and facilities will be CLOSED on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, including all extracurricular activities for Tuesday. This change has been made due to weather forecasts citing the high probability of precipitation and icy conditions, causing the potential for hazardous travel to and from school.

DEL MAR COLLEGE

  • Due to the winter storm and impending outdoor hazardous conditions, Del Mar College will remain closed tomorrow, Jan. 21. The college is closed on Jan. 20 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. DMC will reopen for normal operations at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

COGGIN MEMORIAL SCHOOL

  • Closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to weather
