CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Local businessman Ryant Connelly was sentenced back in court Thursday facing three counts of aggravated perjury.
The aggravated perjury charge stems from Connelly claiming that he would be attending law school in San Antonio in an attempt to have his probation transferred to that jurisdiction.
Connelly is currently in the Nueces County Jail serving a six-year sentence for violating his probation following a 2014 conviction for intoxication assault.
The first count accuses him of making a false statement during a March 30, 2021, virtual hearing in Judge Sandra Watts' court in which he claimed he had applied to St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio. The second count pertains to his assertion that he'd been accepted into St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio. The third count stems from the court's assertion that Connelly made a false statement when he claimed "I took the LSAT and my LSAT score was really high, so they accepted me into that."
He took a plea deal on all three counts, and will serve the three years he received for each count concurrently in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
We asked Connelly for a comment as he was led away from the courtroom wearing an orange jail jumpsuit, his hands and feet secured.
"Talk to my attorney," he said.
Connelly is also appealing his sentence for violating his probation.
