Fishing on a weekend is something many people come to Corpus Christi come to do.
Alice native Luis Hernandez works long days during the week, but the Corpus Christi resident's weekends are spent on the water.
The point, of course, is to catch fish, but once those fish are caught, Hernandez has an even bigger reward.
"I’m just an average Lou doing what I’m called to do," he said.
Hernandez, or "Sweet Lou," as he is known to many, said he felt a calling from Jesus, to help the less fortunate.
"The way I think about it is, I’m blessed at the moment, and at any moment that can all be taken away from me," he said. "I try to give back as much as I can, and, you just never know."
With help from fellow anglers, this week, Lou had about 17 fish to fillet and fry up to offer to the homeless.
"Every time I do it, I can hand out more plates than I did the time before," Hernandez said. "And so I started with five, then I went to 10, 13. So hopefully today I can do 15, 16 plates."
Hernandez's plates consist of fried fish, shrimp, calamari and french fries. This week, he had enough to give out for 20 plates.
The 20 plates he arrived with near City Hall were gone within 10 minutes.
Hernandez hopes to take ingredient and fish donations so he can continue fishing, and cooking, for those in-need.
"I plan on doing this till my ticker stops ticking," he said
